Moving Pods Vs D2 D…The Reviews Are In}

Submitted by: Ingtrid Harris

I’ll be making a major move soon. Planning on going cross country actually. This of course is a huge undertaking, so naturally I’m considering the options and trying to decide what makes sense for me. Debating between door to door movers, or the clever portable moving pods.

Both offer a lot of flexibility as far as locations. Lucky for me, they both have facilities in the city I now reside and the one I plan to move to. Either has storage available, which is important to me. I don’t want to stress out over storage. So being that both companies have some benefits I like, I decided it was time to start looking at differences.

Price seems to be the most obvious thing defining the 2. Could be worth it, could be a total rip-off too. I do love the thought of being able to schedule the pod drop off and pick up based around my own calender. Things get crazy sometimes and it is very appealing to have that flexibility. But, as I said they are also a lot more money. You pay for that novelty and I’m torn over whether it’s worth it. Time and ease of moving has a price…just not sure if the pod price is too high. I’m still in limbo on that.

I guess the thing to do now is what I always tell everyone else to do and start reading some reviews. I need to hear what users are saying before I get too carried away with my hopes for the pods winning! I know the door to door guys make more sense, financially speaking.

Within seconds I’ve pulled up review sites and forums. There is no lack of stories on experiences with both. As well as a few others. The good, the bad and the ugly are all staring back at me. Time to dig in!

After actually glancing over my share of stories, I finally began to see a trend. It was becoming clear quickly that most of the reviews were becoming against the pod idea. And even the positive comments they got were from people who could afford it. Their reviews weren’t even all that great.

There was a story on one site about a lady who had all her stuff ruined by a pod. She claimed they were dirty and she was in a rush. Unfortunately she found out after the fact and it was already too late. I guess the photos they show on their pages of the super clean, almost sterile pod is a myth. At least according to her recount of the greasy invisible goo that was waiting inside. Seeping in through the seams and door of the unit.

In fairness, this was one review out of many. This type of thing could happen anywhere I guess. But I can’t deny the fact that as I started looking objectively, door to door movers was winning the race. I guess I sort of had blinders on in the beginning. I was really leaning toward the moving pods. But at the end of the day, the $2000 cost and the fear of a disaster got the better of me. I’m leaving next weekend and decided to go with door to door. Hopefully I chose well, and maybe helped you with your own moving quandary in the process!
